Ronald L. Hopkins retired from Eastern Kentucky University July 1, 2007 as an Associate Professor and Associate Graduate Faulty in the Fire and Safety Engineering Technology Program, originally joining the faculty August, 1976. His Bachelor of Science Industrial Education and Master of Science, Vocational and Technical Education were awarded from Murray State University; Murray, Kentucky. He has also completed additional course work in Fire Science. As a member of the faculty he had developed curriculum and taught both fire and safety related courses and was instrumental in the growth and development of the program during his tenure.

In addition to his faculty responsibilities he was a consultant to industry in a number of technical areas including fire protection and fire investigation, OSHA related areas of hazardous materials, confined space, respiratory protection, industrial emergency response, accident investigation and all levels of safety management. He currently continues to Consult with the EKU OSHA Ed Center where he serves as the course chair for the Construction Industry Courses, Confined Space Program, Disaster Site Worker Program, and Hazardous Materials Course as well as the developer and instructor for the General Industry and Construction Industry Train-the-Trainer Outreach courses.

He is active in a variety of regional and international fire protection and safety related organizations and has been a presenter during the conferences, on a variety of topics. He holds several professional certifications including the Certified Fire Protection Specialist designation CFPS Board; Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator, Certified Fire Investigator Instructor and Certified Vehicle Fire Investigator National Association of Fire Investigators; and Fire Instructor Level I and II from the Professional Qualifications Board.

He has consulted and taught in both the national and international areas and continues to do so.
